NES-004 Controller Does Not Work on SNAC
NES-004 Controller Does Not Work on SNAC
Bought a snac-adapter and tried my nes-004 controller with it. That didn’t work. Any ideas how to get it working?
I thought all original controllers works with snac using the correct adapters. Apparantly not.

It absolutely does work. But only in the NES core, and you have to enable serial in the settings of that core for it to be enabled.
The SNAC board has some secret undocumented jumpers on it, I'm not sure, but you may have to enable or disable one of them.

Re: NES-004 Controller Does Not Work on SNAC
As said the SNAC controllers only work in core. You can't operate the OSD with it and you have to activate the serial SNAC port in the core settings. Try that first and if it still does not work write us again.
Re: NES-004 Controller Does Not Work on SNAC
I know that it only should work in games in the specific core. My original snes controller works with SNAC on the snes core when I enable snac and play a game.
My NES controller does not work on the NES core when I set SNAC to Controllers.
Do you mean jumpers on the i/o board or on the SNAC adapter itself?

Should no be the jumpers because if your SNES controller works the NES should also work. Maybe the controller itself isn't working or the NES adapter is faulty?anderse77 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 9:45 pm I know that it only should work in games in the specific core. I’ll try to check the controller with original console.
Re: NES-004 Controller Does Not Work on SNAC
@anderse77, have you tried not plugging it in all the way?
Skip to 8:04 in this video (different device, the "Triple Controller", but maybe same problem) for example.

Re: NES-004 Controller Does Not Work on SNAC
I need an adapter to connect my old NES to my vm8833 mk2. I however tested my old NES Zapper and it worked with the SNAC adapter. That means adapter is fully working, right?

I tried to not plug in the controller all the way. It still did not work, however.

A zapper uses different pins than a controller.
Does your SNES controller work in the NES core? Also, does your NES controller work in the SNES core?

Why should the NES work on the SNES?

The NES SNAC connection is picky. See here how all the SNAC Adapters work withe different settings on a Multisystem where you can change voltage and IO setting:
Master System 5V 3.3V IO6
Mega Drive 3 Button 5V 3.3V IO6
Mega Drive 6 Button 5V 3.3V IO6
NES 5V IO6
SNES 5V 3.3V IO6 IOMister
PCE 5V 3.3V IO6 IOMister
PSX 3.3V IO6

https://tetrissuomi.wordpress.com/engli ... atibility/ - you could try and solder two resistors to make it "E-compatible" and see if that works. I'm not aware of any restriction on the controller compatibility though.
