Sonic The Hedgehog Level Select Issue [Solved]

Few thing first using retrobit Megadrive controller usb
When doing the up down left right i hear the ring sound but pressing a and start together does not bring up the level select on the current core version am sure this worked before
Anyone else having this issue

i think at the end you need to press and hold down A+B+C and then press start.

To access it, the player must press the following: ↑ ↓ ← →, then a Ring chime can be heard. Hold down A Button and press the start button to enter Level Select menu

you're correct, keeping A pressed down is enough, i just tried it on my Sonic and it works, the background turns sepia and the debug menu is shown.

Cheers for that is the rom a part of the htgdb gamepacks by any chance?
Are you using a retrobit controller?

Using an XBO controller, i've used Saturn retrobits before and it worked on those controllers just as well.
As far as i'm aware the controller should not have any effect on this, the only exception being bad controller mapping or double mapping.

A Update on this i wonder if i got faulty retrobit controllers or if the mister has issue with two button press usb wise
I notice if i use a controller test suite that if i press a and start only one button register yet if i do b and start they both register
So i reconfigured the a button to the b button and was able to get the level select no problem.

i've had the issue where some keys got double assigned and no matter if i selected reset settings or reconfigured, the problem wouldn't go away.
but when i went into the controller config directory of mister and deleted the offending core setting for that controller, i could reassign a new and correct profile to that controller.
only had that issue once though, if that doesn't work, then the controller itself might be at fault possibly.
then i'd suggest hooking it up to a windows or linux machine and use the controller config tool to see if button presses register correctly.

Not working for me and am out of options it weird it happen to both controllers though as one i never took out the box till today

i've got 2 transparent blue Saturn replica controllers from them which have the official SEGA endorsement logo, but i wonder if SEGA actually gave it to them and if they did any quality checking on them.
the quality of these controllers i find on the very low side, weak battery and a lot of RF interference issues make these controllers one of the worst purchases i've made in a long time.

Am using the usb version only - Solved the controller had a combo hard coded that conflicts

using the cheats option in mister, to activate the level select, I check it and reset the game or do I still need to press the buttons intended?

I have never been able to press A+Start at the same time on my Retrobit controllers (ANY of them) and have them register and I've never understood why. Therefore yes, this code won't work. Never had this issue on the original Genesis/controllers in the 90s. Thoughts?

Yep, I had the same discovery when I got the Genesis and Saturn 6-button RetroBit controllers a few weeks ago. Kind of baffling since I'm pretty sure they're SEGA-licensed controllers and you can't even perform the Sonic level select code without workarounds.

Be interested in those workarounds, short of using the 3-button original controllers with SNAC adapter.
