NES Grey or Black Screen

Why is my NES core just a grey screen?

I change it over to PAL, and then it's a black screen. I tried to load a game (Mario) and nothing happens.

Do you have a BIOS? Is it named properly?

Sounds like either you don't have sdram, or you didn't load a game.

Are you using unheadered roms by chance? The NES core relies on rom headers to set console up.
