Exciting news!!!
Cool! Looks like it is working great.
I want one.
Now available for preorder.
Nice, but...
"US ONLY - Shipping in November"
US Only. Oh well.
Ordered this to try it out. Hoping it will work with MiSTer. I own original rotary game pcbs and ls-30's, but would be cool to have this working on the MiSTer.
Now only if this would work with MiSTer AND someone get Cal. 50 working on MiSTer
Cal. 50 arcade game with impossible to get OPTICAL rotary joysticks (green tops instead of yellow tops)

Saw this today: https://thunderstickstudio.com/products ... r-joystick
Hoping it works for the mister besides mame.
Looks pretty good, will be interested to see how it performs. I don't really want the buttons or a cheap box to use as a case but I guess just the stick + encoder would be around $80 anyway.
Jotego tested the GRS stick with MiSTer.
would be nice to order just the stick, but this is an awesome development none the less!
I've preordered myself one. Will order a joystick box/casing from amazon, maybe some other buttons.
US only at this stage unfortunately due to licensing limitations with SNK. Could order one via a freight forwarding service but that blows out the cost sadly.
Great it seems to work with Mister but no-one has tested the input lag yet. Could be a deal breaker
Did any of you guys test this with the MiSTer?
They will be shipping this internationally from early next year: https://thunderstickstudio.com/products ... ernational
Awesome news. Will definitely get one now.
Midnight Resistance (Data East) ?
Out of the box, the controller's spinner doesn't work with Ikari Warriors. At least I couldn't get it to work in any of the controller's modes.
You can get Midnight Resistance to work with some fiddling around.
Anyone have instructions for how to set this up with the mister cores?
Well mine arrived this week. Just put it together, it’s working fine on a PC but I can’t get the rotary motion working on the MiSTer when testing Midnight Resistance.
Any help would be appreciated.
Unfortunately, just yesterday I disassembled my controller and installed it in my ancient mame pedestal arcade so I don't have an easy way to test/recreate what I did but from what I remember and from the settings I still kept...
First and foremost, verify you have the latest firmware for the controller and download the config tool (TS-RJConfigurator) from the product's website.
I put the controller in Spinner mode, used the controller's to set it X-Axis and 30 pixels, kept the 12 way knob on, set the "Sensitivity" in the OS to Highest and tweaked the throttle setting till it worked ok for me but it was never perfect.
I have found, at least on my controller, that there even the slightest touch it registers a spin movement so it can be a pain to narrow down the right spinner settings.
You can also try using "Free" mode in the config tool instead of the 30 Pixel setting and see if that helps you out.
I would use this in your MiSTer.ini setting just for Midnight Resistance...
Code: Select all
[midres]
spinner_throttle=200
Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but I hope it at least gives you a starting point until something better comes along the way.

Don’t be sorry, thanks to you I’ve got it working. Thank you!
Glad to hear you got it working
Does anyone know if Thunderstick Studio has plans for establishing distribution in Europe?
Import duty coupled with their astronomical shipping rates more than doubles the total cost, and the rotary joystick isn't the only GRS product I'm interested in.
Got mine delivered to the UK this week, final deliver was from Evri!! but no further taxes. I assume the higher postage to UK over Europe already took care of the taxes
Anyone here do anything more with these? i ordered one, and had ordered a kit for joystick and buttons from amazon to have a smaller joystick just for those rotary games. The problem I had with this particular joystick is the way it is supposed to be mounted into the box, the wires expect some space to the left to put in and it didn't quite work for the kit I had ordered from amazon because you need more space on the left side than the joystick has to fit. I have an Hori fighter stick setup I put Sanwa parts in, that I don't want to sacrafice since it is for fighting games. But it looks like the GRS joystick probably would work in there. I probably will try again just using the cardboard box it comes with as a setup, but I wanted a better solution than that. Has anyone put the joystick in anything else?
A quick update. I found out that there is a setup program in windows that lets you program the rotary stick to be mounted in different directions. So you can mount it in any direction and use windows to program the stick based on which direction you have the wires come out of. The default is wires coming out of the left side of the stick. So I went ahead and wired it up. The button wires are supposed to be labeled, and it looks like they started to do that but mines weren't all labeled so I guessed. The config program showed me how I wired wrong. The issue now is the do it yourself housing I bought to put the GRS in is not deep enough and when I fully screw the box closed the stick does not move right. I guess I can repurpose the setup for another stick in case I want to 2 player someone in a fighter game. Again, it would be nice to know if anybody put the Rotary Joystick in a setup other than the cardboard box it comes with. It would be nice to hear some suggestions.
For those who want to know. Don't get the the "Acrylic Panel and Case Joystick DIY Set Kits Replacement for Arcade Game Machine Cabinet Controller DIY Kit c" by Tapdra to house this stick. the housing is not deep enough. You can get it to screwed shut and it will look good, but you wont be able to move directionally like you want.
