Hi All,

I have a LG C9 OLED and the new 1920x1440p option will not work in MiSTer.

What is odd is that if I set my computer (using HDMI) to 1920x1440, the LG works just fine and I get the pillar bars on each side since this is a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Does anyone know how I can get the settings that nVIDIA use for 1920x1440 and then add said settings to mister.ini?

didn't LG just introduce 1440p for this years generation of oleds? The CX series I think

Yes, I have heard that it works just fine on the CX models.

any light on this would be helpful i have been trying all evening to get a 1440p out of my mister. windows on my PC will output 1440p no problem but whatever setting i try on the mister give me invalid or nothing at all

an update is that i have been successful in getting 1920 x 1200p with these settings

video_mode=1920,48,32,80,1200,3,6,26,154128

this is on a lg OLED B6

like i said the thing is i know the display will output 1440p i just need to dial in the right timings and i don't really know what i'm doing just reading lots of information etc

As a reference, here are the VESA timings for 1920x1440@60Hz if I am understanding correctly:

I tested and it does not work. Also, tested yours mambrino and no luck.

I am assuming you recommend trying the 3rd option since this display is not a CRT?

Try everything. roll a dice. Read the screen EDID data.
CRTs needed long blanking delays to give time for moving back the spot to top/left. LCD don't have these constraints.
Reduced blanking allows to reduce clock frequency, which is far better for mister HDMI encoder which is officially limited to 165MHz

I tried both the 60 Hz ones you posted Grabulosaure..., but no luck. :/

Thank you for trying! It really is weird that it works with a nVidia GPU, but not MiSTer. I have no idea how to see the timing info nVidia is using for this resolution.

Like you zorlac I've had issues trying to get 1440p working on my lg even the nvidia drivers can output the display. The only one I've got working atm and sticking with is the 1200p one I posted up above. Hopefully someone else can shed some light onto the subject...

Does anyone know what timing standard MiSTer's HDMI uses? (e.g., GTF, DMT, CVT, CVT Reduced Blanking)

Did a little more looking and it looks like nVidia's custom resolution settings will tell you all timing info except for horz/vert "back porch".


UPDATE - I am almost positive nVIDIA is using this CVT Reduced Blanking timing:

video_mode=1920,48,32,112,1440,3,4,39,184828

So why wont this work with MiSTer? Very odd...

UPDATE 2 - Just tested again with the timings above and my LG C9 is reporting a 58.8 Hz refresh rate. Maybe this is the issue? How can I make sure MiSTer is set to 60 Hz? For reference...the 1920x1080 default resolution timings for MiSTer show up at 59.90 Hz on my display.

UPDATE 3 - Okay, nevermind. 1920x1440 actually doesnt work with my nVidia GPU. It looks like it does, but my LG reports 3840x2160 @ 59.95 Hz. I then tried manual timings using CVT Reduced Blanking from the nVidia custom timings panel and tested...and it failed. Pretty sure this is not possible now with this display.

Got this to work on my C7, but isn't it a little bit stretched wide or are my eyes deceiving me?

I once made a version of the menu core with a link to the I2C DDC/EDID interface:

Using the menu core to run "edid" code from MiSTer command line. Screen supported video modes will be listed.

Where should i put the edid folder?
Tried putting it under the sd root then in the utility folder i see no edid or any other option after booting the mister then tried moving all files from the edid folder to the sd root=no boot picture.
So have no id'e at all how to proceed.

Actually, this would make a very helpful "Utility" core, together with the lag tester that you put in the (special build of the) Genesis core.
Probably just about as useful as the memory tester.

It was just a test.

- Extract the archive
- Rename menu.rbf to m.rbf
- Copy m.rbf, edid, edid-decode to the SD card.
- Launch the new "M" core from MiSTer menu
- Type F9 for the console, then "root", "1" for login
- Type "cd /media/fat" to get to the SD card root.
- Type "./edid a | ./edid-decode | more"

All supported video modes of the connected screen will be listed.

I have a the AOC Agon AG 271QG and i cannot get 1920x1440 @60hz to work with mister (no signal). 1080p and 720p is working ok.

Yep same here and i get the same Edid.
I have manage to get 1920x1440 work from windows but it will then stretch the image to 16:9 (cover the full screen) and no way to turn it off (that i can find/see).
I tried some Edid reading tools in windows but got way less info then with Grabulosaure Edid script.

I guess we have too get in the Service menu to maybe be able too stop the stretching, i have found three different methods to get to the service menu for AOC screens/tv (not for this model) but none work and have tried many times, basically given up on 1440p at this time.
Anyone know how too get in?

I got 1200p to work, but the aspect ratio is all messed up...which got me to thinking. 2560x1440p would be the best resolution for a 16:9 native display like the C9, but that will not happen with current MiSTer hardware. I think for now...1080p with integer scaling enabled will have to do (for me).

@Zorlac, did you ever get 1920x1440 working on your C9? Or are you still using 1080p60 with integer scaling?

I have the same TV and had the same issue ("invalid format") when trying to output 1920x1440 from the MiSTer. Editing the EDID via CRU didn't do anything (overriding the EDID won't change what the TV can do).

No luck...I ended up getting a 2nd OLED (the CX) for my battle station and moved the MiSTer to that display. Works perfect now.

Thank you! This mode runs perfectly without the display blinking out! I am running on an ultrawide 38" 3840x1600

That's interesting. I have a C9, so I guess there is some difference between the two for it to work on one but not the other?

By they way, what is the benefit of running at that resolution over 1080p?

I've tried the following on my Acer ET322QU 32" FreeSync monitor and all I get is "snow", but the monitor's information display correctly shows 1920x1440@60Hz. Not sure what's gong on, but it certainly is frustrating.

I'm currently using video_mode=1536,48,32,80,1200,3,10,22,125674 which was provided by Atrac17 for use with the NES core.

Of course the standard video_mode=8 works just fine as well for 1920x1080@60Hz

Maybe I’m answering my own question here, but from what I’ve read on the Atari forums, it appears as though the MiSTer’s pixel clock is limited to 165MHz over HDMI, which is how I have my monitor connected. I’ll see if I can dig up a VGA cable tomorrow and try to see if that solves the problem. Does anyone have a custom modeline for 1920x1440 at 60Hz whose pixel clock is less than or equal to 165MHz? Is such a thing possible?

It still doesn’t answer why I’m having problems with the 1920x1200 resolution though as that pixel clock is 154MHz.

From Atari forums...
* 20MHz : Minimal frequency set by the MiSTer software
* 150MHz : This is the designed frequency target for the scaler, to support 1920x1080. The scaler was optimised to get [almost] no timing errors at that frequency.
* 165MHz : This is the maximum frequency supported by the ADV7513 HDMI encoder.
* 200MHz : This is the limit set by the MiSTer software.

No luck with the VGA connection. I still get snow and a locked up MiSTer when trying to achieve the 1440p settings. VGA worked fine for the 1536x1200 resolution (same as the HDMI input). So now I’m left to believe that there’s either something wrong with the miSTer settings, or the monitor.

Monitor is displaying the correct resolution and timings when the info screen is on, so that’s good.

MiSTer requires a power cycle after each snow screen, so that leads me to believe that it’s not the monitor, but the settings.

Set fb_size=0. Main Mister crashes if you set fb_size=1 with higher than 1080p resolutions.
