Excellent news. Time to dust off that Driving Force GT.
Does it work with force feedback?
Um, the core has been public since day one as he didn't do the beta key thing properly. You can play Outrun and Hang On now, has played well for weeks although nice bug fixes have been done.
As far as I know it has not been released to the public. My MISTer is up to date and they are not there.
I have the rbf and the zip but not the mra which is what happens when a JT core is in beta: update all downloads the rbf and zip but not the mra.
Did you manually download thye mra?
Regarding Hang On I am not sure where it could be located. I have Hang On Jr. but it is not a JT core.
May be you are referring to Super Hang On: this is what Jotego said regarding Out Run.
"There is still a band in the middle of the road that shouldn't be there. It affects Super Hang On too."
I have these cores too since day one, came with the official update_all script (no Beta status). But nearly unplayable, due to the missing frame buffer. Glad that Jotego could implement this now. Looking forward to test Out Run, Super Hang-on and Turbo Out Run properly.
Now I remember having an unplayable Out Run at some time. Did you update your MISTer recently?
On Feb 24 there was a big reorganization update from Jotego and this update deleted a bunch of stuff. On the 26 most of what was deleted was restored and a few more things a few days later. It could be at that time that Out Run was deleted because it was considered in beta.
There was also another arcade which disappeared and is still not back: Pang 3.
The first release of Out Run was pretty unplayable. You could manage a single game but after that it would crash. Jotego released an updated version with a few bug fixes. It stopped the crashes but there were some graphical glitches. This has run smooth for me and never crashed once. Looking forward to the fully working game today.
Jotego released Out Run 2 hours ago, update all did not pick it up yet and I do not now when it will as Distribution_MiSTer has not been updated in 2 days.
You can manually download it from https://github.com/jotego/jtbin/tree/ma ... n/releases.
Being far from my MISTer I did not test it.
I updated 5 mins ago with no issues. Update all got the new core
It's out. But there are many graphic glitches as it seems. Still this colored lines vertical lines on the street (yellowish and green): reset after Dipswitch settings doesn't work properly and the car graphics vanished (happend after a reload of the core).
edit: Ok, the vanishing graphics are fixed with a newer Mister file i tried now. But there are glitches as i said. Also on the start when you load the core.
Thanks, I guess that for Jotego cores update all does not use Distribution_MiSTer which could be only for official cores.
This is what Jotego said 2 days ago:
There is still a band in the middle of the road that shouldn't be there. It affects Super Hang On too.
And the engines from passing by cars don't sound quite right. Working on it now...
I wasn't expecting that fixing the sprites would make the game feel so much faster. The arch scenes feel incredible now.
He does not mention if these have been fixed for the public release but does not mention any major problem.
I will see in a few hours.
Very strange: update all did not update anything on my MISTer.
I ran update all 2 hours ago and it grabbed the files. When I tried the game nothing had changed. But that was because the old rbf file was still in the folder and the game was loading that. I deleted it so just the new rbf is there and it works perfectly now
I suppose your old rbf was one with a timestamp in the name which is what it was the one started as Jotego decided to remove the timestamp from the name. I think it is a bad idea.
From what you said it looks like the previous update you did was before Feb 24.
On my side I did the update on Feb 24 and more after that. I have jtoutrun.rbf dated Feb 24 and also the zips outrun.zip and toutrun.zip but not the mras as the update all script does not download these when a core is in beta.
I will delete the rbf and see what update all gives.
I just deleted jtoutrun.rbf (Feb 24) and ran update all: the new rbf was downloaded but not the mras. I ran update all again in case but still no mra. I will have to download them manually.
Removing the timestamp in the rbf name is a really really bad idea.
@Retro-Nerd
What outrun rbf do you have?
If you have jtoutrun_<TimeStamp>.rbf and jtoutrun.rbf just delete the one with the timestamp.
It's just a "jtoutrun.rbf" file. Size=3.256.744 bytes. It kinda works. But at the start of the core you see some garbled stuff, maybe related to the frame buffer implementation. And this colored bands on the streets that annoys me a bit. Other than that it seems to run fine.
Delete it, re-run update all and see what it gives.
Edit:
May be not as it depends of which size you refer to:
Under MISTer size = 2.91MB (3,02,664B)
Under Windoze size = 3.1MB (3,256,744B), size on disk = 3.1MB (3,257,344B)
It exactly the same file again. About says "JTOUTRUN v1.2.6".
I realized it may not change anything and edited my previous post before you made yours.
I will be back close to my MISTer soon and will check but I am wondering about the size difference between MISTer and Win.
How do you do this about thing on the core?
"About" is the version info in every core. Go to the core screen with the "button mappings" and "video processing" and go a few steps down.
Now I do not understand what the update all script did.
So, it's finally the correct outrun update?
I have no idea what is going on. Once back home I will test to see what is happening.
Back home and first test.
First I used the core which I manually downloaded, I get the same version as you did (thanks for the About tip). Basically it works but I did not do exhaustive tests. As what is on the screen moves real fast I cannot say if there are glitches.
Next I wanted to know what it was about with the different sizes I got and double checked:
I deleted jtoutrun.rbf and ran update all. I got a core of a smaller size as I mentioned previously. When I started Out Run I got the same problems that I got when the core was initially released which in my case is more than unplayable: First a black screen, next a blue screen as my monitor does not get any video signal. At some point I see the regular screen for one millisecond and the process repeats itself between black, blue and regular screen. I can activate the OSD but cannot do anything due to this cycling. I have to power off/on.
So update all downloaded the old version and to get the new one I had to manually download the rbf along the mras as update all did not download them.
I suspect this has something to do with the removal of the timestamp from the rbf name.
Let see what others experience as I am at a loss with what happened on my MISTer.
I did an Update All, and Outrun updated, but Super Hang-On is still the same.
Had a quick test of the new release and the core seems like it's still WIP.
After one race, the Ferrari has now disapeared from my game! You can still control the invisible car, but the game track has no cars - replacing file and rebooting doesn't fix.
Changing the controls to dpad, then back to analog stick, the controls refuse to change. There's also a thick line appearing on the track alongside the lane markings.

The update was only for Out Run. I guess there is more work to do on Super HangOn.
