Hi guys, some core Arcade games don't start and they give me this answer. I also updated via update_all but nothing won't start.
There's a mess with mame. Looks like you are using old/incomplete dumps for such games.
You are using the unofficial NeoGeo arcade core. You either have to copy the roms from games/NEOGEO to games/mame or create symlinks from games/mame/<rom name>.zip to games/NEOGEO/<rom name>.zip for each rom. The roms also have to be from the DarkSoft pack not .neo games. You have to get them youself as the update script will not get them for you.
Edit: you also need to create a neogeo.zip = uni-bios.rom+000-lo.lo+sfix.sfix and place it in games/mame.
Looks like super sidekicks, might want to use the NeoGeo core instead?
Try using the darksoft set, these are pretty reliable.
I downloaded the Darksoft package and copied the games to the neo geo folder of games, launching the Core NeoGEo they work. If instead I open the ARCADE core and launch Sidekicks I get this error. Do I have to copy the same game folders in mame too?
this link takes me back to my post....
No, to my post. Read it, do what it says and it will work.
dI followed your advice. Created a folder I inserted those 3 files taken from the NEOGEO folder and created a zip, copied it to mame but now a screen appears with CROSS HATCH TEST written

Follow all the instructions placing neogeo.zip in games/mame is not enough.
solved I was wrong. A thousand thanks!
I would like to understand one last thing but the games in Arcade are downloaded automatically
More detailed explanation:
This core is unofficial -> Update all does know anything about it.
It is a hack of the console core and uses the roms from the console which you have to download yourself.
Being an arcade core they have to be in games/mame so you have to copy them or create symlinks to save space but it is tedious.
Perfect, thanks for the explanation!!
