Some roms loading into black screen

I use Mistercade in a AeroCity cab in TATE mode, with the TATE CCW .ini file. Never had an issue with this. Recently some roms (battle bakraid, garegga, most 90s games) started loading into a black screen (I can still pull up the OSD menu). Surprisingly this does not happen with older roms (e.g., Donkey Kong, Bosconian). I am not sure what I need to do - I don't think I changed anything but I cannot launch most games.
Any clue?
