My PVM is not syncing. Can anyone give me the key sequence to change the frequency from the menu ?

I have similar on my CRT. I had to force the signal to be NTSC (even though I have a PAL TV) in order to get a stable picture. I'm not near my Mister at the moment, but I'll try and find out the key strokes to enable that next time I am (there's an H/V offset that had a similar effect for me).

You can see the video settings in the OSD in the follow-up tweet.

Thanks a lot, it helped !

Press MENU / VALIDATE / 6X DOWN / VALIDATE

This will toggle from PAL to NTSC.

It's dependent upon CRT for the sync. I made the toggle for ease of use until I pull the actually values off the board for sync width etc.

Don't mind the geometry, it's intentional and has nothing to do with the core.

I'm not getting this core thru update_all, even with the CoinOpCollection option enabled.

What could i be doing wrong? (SDcard and usb drive have enough space, and update_all is on the latest version)

I don't think the core is official. Did you enable Unofficial in update all settings?
I have it on my system but I am not sure if it came via the Unofficial setting.

Edit:
I had a look in the log and this is what I got.

Check out the readme, CRT's should sync to the native refresh rate toggle as I have the hardware now. Timings were inaccurately reported in mame. This is why hardware is an important part of the development process! Enjoy!

Are you planning to recreate any PRE Mega System 1 games from Jaleco? Like 1985's City Connection..

Yes and no. City Connection wasn't on my to do list. Only two other JALECO games and they are extremely rare/expensive.

Thanks for the update!

However, this latest update has "broken" Rod-Land for me, and P47 doesn't work either, since they're now losing sync.

All other cores work as usual, only MegaSys1 A is affected after this update to the core and/or relevant games.

I've tried flipping video modes and refresh rates betwen NTSC/PAL/Native in the Rod-Land/P47 cores.

I've tried manually downloading and overwriting the core, the rbf's and alternatives and restarted the MiSTer.

I've also tried inputting the following at the end of the .ini file to change the video mode for MegaSys1 A only:

[MegaSys1_A]
video_mode=1920,48,32,80,1200,3,6,23,144029 ;56.205 Hz

However, the custom video mode I'm normally using works fine for all other cores (video_mode=1920,48,32,80,1200,3,6,26,154000), and the tailored video mode above does not fix the sync problem either. Using my regular video mode it appears to be syncing to 56.205 Hz just fine, nominally at least.

Works fine with all other games including those with odd and lower refresh rates such as Kung-Fu Master, etc.

It seems that the MeagSys1 A core is the only core (now) in my setup that's not working with vsync_adjust=2, i.e. single buffer. So changing it to vsync_adjust=1 works, but with not insignificant latency of course. Perhaps there's a clue here?

Thanks for the update!

However, this latest update has "broken" Rod-Land for me, and P47 doesn't work either, since they're now losing sync (or something similar to that). Like a sync or resolution change where the HDMI screen has to find the right sync/mode/resolution.

Before this update Rod-Land worked fine (apart from occasional slowdowns which may be part of the original game), but now it's losing contact to the screen, i.e. dropouts/black outs, while the audio continues in the background.

Video showing the problem (excuse my kids watching YT in the background):
https://onlinemastering.dk/download/sync.mov

All other cores work as usual, only Jaleco is affected after this update to the core and/or relevant games.

I've tried flipping video modes and refresh rates betwen NTSC/PAL/Native in the Rod-Land/P47 cores, but to no avail.

Do I need to download and install something other than via the Update All script? I.e. something via the Patreon page? The Update All script seems to have updated all that's mentioned further up in this thread.

PS. I've tried manually downloading and overwriting the core, the rbf's and alternatives and restarted the MiSTer. No luck.

Lemme know if what I said on Patreon fixed your issue.

Thanks! But unfortunately not. Just updated my description above as you were posting. The last bit is the interesting bit. Certainly it's a doable workaround, but with latency. Not so important for Rod-Land, but it is for P47.

There isn't. I can't replicate this.

I'm trying to be systematic about this, although I realize there are several variables. However, I have a pretty standard setup.

I've replaced the new core (2023-07-02) with the previous build (2023-05-19) and it works fine in terms of sync, this includes single buffer vsync adjust = 2 in the .ini.

Changing it back to the newest core and it immediately starts dropping out once the title screen (Rod-Land) pops up. Same .ini, no other changes. Back to the old core and it works fine again.

The older 2023-05-19 build appears to have a different refresh rate of ≈56.8 Hz, the recent 2023-07-02 build at ≈56.2.

I'm afraid I'm not proficient at using Git Hub as you requested, but I can try to report it there instead if necessary as I'd like to help fix this.

PS. I also tried a 1080p screen and standard 1920 x 1080 resolution in the .ini. Same problem, but it works with the previous core build so it doesn't seem the monitor or resolution itself is the cause.

This was before I had the physical hardware in hand to verify the timings. It won't do that anymore. Timings were based off of mame information and an OSSC data someone posted from a PCB. There are no CRT issues and lagerfeldt's issue has been resolved on github.

I strongly suggest if an end user haS problems they create an issue on github if they can't find a solution themselves. I can't track things from forums, patreon, discord etc. We're always willing to fix something if it's an actual issue with the core.

I often see this myself on day 1, with ATRAC cores and some other 'experimental' or 'unofficial' cores, but a little patience saves the trouble and potential confusion of manually installing files and roms, I just wait a day or two, update_all always catches up eventually.

When a core is created/updated in a repository it is not immediately available via the update script which uses databases (Official core, Jotego core, Atrac cores, ...). These databases have to be updated first. I think they are automatically updated periodically but I am not sure. If an update does not come just wait some time it will come. Right now it is there, just re-run the script.

This X 100. Good things come to those who wait.
