DAC for MiSTer?

Unread post by ColdSpike »

So I just got my MiSTer setup on my Sony PVM. It's hooked up using the HD-15 to RGB/BNC connectors. That all works just fine, but then I keep finding out that some of the more experimental cores basically require the 128MB SDRAM module which if I upgraded would mean the analog port would cease to function. I'm told you can still convert the MiSTer's HDMI signal to something a CRT PVM can understand using a DAC. Any good ones on the market I could save up for?

i think the feature youre looking to leverage is called direct video.

I'm assuming you're using an analog io board. Which experimental cores are you speaking of?

You can have a 128mb ram without losing analog audio. What You can't do is install a second stick of RAM while using the analog io board, you would need to ditch the io board for that. Unless you are a developer, you're only going to need a single stick.

Generally work in progress cores utilize a second ram stick in development phase but use only one when released publicly. Work In progress cores like Saturn have a single stick and dual stick version. The Saturn core being a work in progress is still running games with varying degrees of playability whether you have a second stick or not. Hope this helps and I didn't completely misunderstand your question.
