All three wagyan games get corrupted graphics and usually crash within seconds. also both wai wai world games crash within a few seconds of playing, but all the menus and title screens etc seem to work fine.
not sure if its me or not. can somebody test these for me?

Are you using roms with mapper NES 2.0 ?
The NES core is compatible only with this type of mapper.

I do confirm that WaiWai World games (Japan version as those I my favorite ones) work as they should. No issue at all on my side.
Just need to mask both edges.
Regarding the other games I do confirm the same issue, wagyan games get corrupted graphics and I"m even not able to control the player,
I tried several roms but always the same.
I've tried the Wagyan land games i've had, and they worked all three.
The first two games i've cleared the first stage, the third i played up to the fifth stage before turning the system off.

All the versions I have, have differents SHA1 and none of them work obviously.
Where did you find those 3 versions if I can ask ?
EDIT : Never mind, I found on my archives the working versions of Wagyan games. Unfortunately I do not remember where they came from.
I guess it was the same source as you 
So WaiWai and Wagyan all work on my side now
i've no idea where i got this set from, all i know that it was a pretty old one.
they all had archaic and ines1 headers, i've converted the set to ines2 using the xml database from the nesdev forum.
i've not encountered a broken game as of yet, maybe aside from a homebrew i think.
