Hi All,

Just wondered when Bubble Bobble will be available to the general public?

Thanks

Mark

I'm playing beta 2 of Bubble Bobble. It's working great! The sound emulator that is running in FPGA I can't tell the difference.

It's finally out and open sourced.

God damn it's just like I remember from my childhood. It plays beautifully.

Apparently there are still some issues to be ironed out, but it definitely plays better than any emulator I've ever tried.

Oh, I just remembered: on my PVM, the image is not-centred and to the right a bit, but the H and V CRT adjustment doesn't seem to function. Maybe it's just me, not sure. It works in the CPS1 cores.

My only minor gripe is that the default button mappings are a bit messed up (Jump and Bubble are mapped to X & Y rather than A & B), but nothing that can't be fixed in the remapping menus.

Great work childhood relived without the constant smell of chip fat, and clock watching so I get back to school in time.

Ive been trying to play this on my cabinet this morning - im re-mapping but for some reason the maps dont work when you start the game. The buttons work fine in other cores, any advice would be appreciated!

Im using an ipac controller.

Edit: ive made a post in the controllers thread - i thought it was just this game but its not working in any of them now.

I've noticed that a few of the alternative versions of Bubble Bobble, either hang on a white screen or start in test mode and i can't seem to get them out of it.. any one got any advice to get them to work? dreamland/super dreamland is one, I've checked I have the correct zip files, and the mra is pointing to the correct core, also checked the files listed in the mra are actually in the zip.

I'd never played Bubble Bobble until I got the MiSTer. What a brilliant game. I went through the alternative versions and have the same problems as bazza_12, most of the alternative version aren't working.

Bootleg - White Screen
Bootleg Redux - White screen
Bootleg 68705 - Black screen
PCB - Black screen
Prototype on Tokyo Hardware - Black screen
Lost Cave PCB - Black Screen
Dream Land - Test Mode
Super Bubble Bobble Bootleg - Test Mode
Super Bubble Bobble Bootleg Set 1 - Test Mode
Super Bubble Bobble Bootleg Set 2 - Test Mode
Super Bubble Bobble Bootleg Set 3 - Test Mode
Super Bubble Bobble Bootleg Set 4 - Test Mode

Anyone else having the same problem or know how to fix this?

Thanks

/Edit: Ignore ...
I used the update_all.sh script to get Bubble Bobble going, but it is the JP version on it. So I am having a hard time reading the text ...

Is there any way to replace the ROM with the US version?

For anyone else stumbling accross. This is just a DIP switch to switch to english ...

there is an option in the osd for changing the rom size from 256 <> 512.
I've found that the JP roms only work with it set to 256 and the hacks and US roms etc seem to work better with the 512.
I was playing lost caves only yesterday so as long as your roms are OK you should be able to get this running too.

I am also having trouble running some of the alternate roms for Bubble Bobble. But I cannot find this setting for changing rom size in the OSD. Where do I have to look to find this setting? Thanks!

Thanks for posting those screen shots.
I found this setting in some of the Bubble Bobble roms but the one I'm specifically interested in (Prototype on Tokio Hardware) does not have that option and I'm getting a black screen when trying to run it. Have you had any luck getting that version to run?

No worries. Thanks for checking! I also haven't been able to get this version running on MAME either, which is too bad because it's supposed to have a built in level-editor which I've always wanted to check out.
