CRT Help Please!

Unread post by samspot »

Hi, I am not very good at A/V and I'm thoroughly confused about how to get set up. Your help is very much appreciated.

I recently got an Ultimate Mister Pro: https://ultimatemister.com/product/ultimate-mister-pro/
I also bought the active encoder: https://misteraddons.com/collections/mi ... oder-board

I have VGA -> Encoder -> Yellow Composite Cable -> TV.

I found the wiki and replaced my mister.ini with this file:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MiSTe ... MiSTer.ini

I then changed vga_mode=svideo based on this page: https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_M ... tion-table
I also tried vga_mode=rgb.

I have a SOG switch which according to the above is N/A. The encoder has a switch and I've tried both positions. I'm not getting any video on either the main mister menu or with the NES core running a game.

I have a few questions:

  1. Do I need to open up my mister a flip a 5v switch? I recall seeing something like that but none of the instructions mention it.
  2. Should I see the main mister menu on the CRT?
  3. Do I still need special cores? I set update all to get them but it only grabbed four and there's a message about them being merged into the main cores.

Any other advice you can provide would help. Thank you so much!

To answer your questions:

1) The encorder board you've bought can recieve power through two methods:
A] Though a VGA cable with a 9th pin for power (requires setting a jumper on the I/O board)
B] Via USB-C

2) Yes

3) Y/C functionality is now included in the main cores. You will need to setup your MiSTer.ini for Y/C output:

Code: Select all

;ypbpr=0
vga_mode=svideo
ntsc_mode=0
composite_sync=1

Hi Thanks! It was the jumper - it's all working now and with the settings you shared. Thanks again!
