Problem with NTSC VIC-20 Core

Unread post by garlicspy »

In NTSC, the VIC-20 core is no longer functioning correctly. Many games lock up when they shouldn't.

Simple illustration: Dig Dug cartridge. Although the code is NTSC, it locks up in NTSC fairly quickly after booting up. It functions well in PAL.

Somewhere there's a timing problem.

VIC20_20200504.rbf is the latest version that doesn't do this. It does, however, suffer from sound distortion.

I will check this out.

I just received my RetroCastle YC adapter and the VIC-20 core with composite output looks impressively accurate.

Are you sure you have the latest release 20231208? There were NTSC issues prior to this release which were ironed out.

What are your core settings? Which version of Dig Dug did you try? I just tried the version on the MegaCart in NTSC mode and was able to play up to Round 6 without any issues.
