Analog IO Board V6.0 Fan Voltage

Hello,

I got a Noctua fan for my v6.0 IO board, but it is surprisingly loud. I know there is supposed to be a jumper switch to switch between 3 volts and 5 volts, but there are only empty sockets on this board. Is there any way to change the voltage on this board? Is the voltage set to 3 volts or 5 volts by default? Thank you!

The jumper block for voltage selection (3 pins) should be right next to the fan connector.
If you flip the board over you should see one of the outer pins (or in your case vias/holes) bridged with the center pin.
Here is a link to the schematics of the official IO board (v6.0).

If you can post a detailed picture of at least the underside of the I/O board it can help to identify how they may have set it up and proper approach for switching it.

I'm not sure, but it looks like a resistor is bridging the circuit to deliver 5 volts to the fan. Is that what's happening?

Yes, that's a 0 ohm resistor bridging the 5 volt line with the line going to the fan. To switch it 3.3v, you'll have to de-solder that resistor and attach it between the 3.3v line and the fan (middle pin hole)...just make sure there isn't any left over solder bridging the 5v with middle pin hole.
Better yet, if you could, solder a 3 pin header in the 3 holes and use a jumper cap to switch between 3.3 and 5v as needed.

This wont be your last issue with this board. Its missing an entire row of header pins in p6 and p7, its nissing the io pin header near the User port , the 5v selector for the VGA port and is covered in flux

In short your User IO Port will not work so you cant have Snac or a MT32 PI. Its been put together in a very shoddy way, typical,of a cheap Ali-Express/Ebay/ Amazon board.

That is a very gnarly solder job, I'd have been livid receiving it. If you're within the refund window I'd kick it back to the vendor, disgraceful!

Where did you buy this IO board? This should never have been sold in such a poor state.

Tell us so others can avoid the seller of this poor workmanship.

If recently purchased return for a refund.

It also looks like the fan header wasn't soldered on....just pressure fitted.

Well, crap. I got this thing years ago, so I guess I'm out of the refund window. I don't know if you can still buy it from this vendor, but here it is:

You can clean the flux and add the headers if you know how to solder. If you do buy again try and stay away from the seemingly cheap Aliexpress. Amazon and ebay boards.
