Z80 end-of-life announced

Unread post by ExCyber »

After nearly 50 years in production, the last of the original Z80 CPU family has been declared end-of-life, apparently because the fabrication process is being retired. This doesn't have any immediate practical impact for most retrogaming/retrocomputing purposes since there's still a huge supply in the surplus market (and by some estimates, unlicensed Z80s outnumber licensed ones), but it's still a bit disappointing to see it go.

What a run, I hope for a proper press release from Zilog.
The Z80 is a fantastic processor. I have so many devices powered by this little beast.
