HDMI Matrix Override to Passthrough Direct Video?

Is there a way to get a professional 4K matrix to passthrough a MiSTer Direct Video signal on HDMI? If I connect the MiSTer directly to my RT4K, Direct Video works just fine. But when run through a JTech 8x8 matrix, the signal doesn’t come through. Are there some EDID or other settings to make the matrix not interfere?

The Extron SMX I use passes DV/DV1 through. Can't speak to JTech (first time hearing of the brand).

Interesting…which SMX are you using? Is it one of the DVI, or a proper HDMI? Can it do 4K?

2U sized SMX. Has 8x8 and 8x4 HDMI cards installed. Does up to 1080p.

Oh that’s interesting. I’m running everything through this (admittedly) lesser-known hardware because it handles everything in 4K and has a lot of ports. I might segregate my setup into 1080p stuff through an Extron and leave just the 4K specific stuff to this device.

Also the person who runs misteraddons was kind enough to reply to me:
from what I hear many of the HDMI matrix boxes don’t pass direct video. I don’t believe it’s a CEC issue but I don’t know that anyone has pinpointed the exact reason.

I would suspect EDID matching to be the culprit.
Some switchers do this to force a common res (and other settings) to increase compatibility. some switchers have dip switches yo control and/override what EDID data is being sent from the source.
If yours doesnt. you may need to look into EDID sniffing to find out what is being communicated to and from the switch.

For some times i used a tesmart hdmi kvm switch (8x1). The one i have is 4k30 fps but there is a more expensive version that can do 4k60. Direct video work perfectly fine.

Early Extron 1080p max HDMI matrix: doesn’t work
Kramer 4K60 matrix: doesn’t work
Key Digital matrix: WORKS
but yeah, I also suspect EDID behavior here.
