Video Idea: Comparison of JAMMA Hardware Options
Here is a video idea I know I would certainly appreciate, and imagine others would as well. With all the upcoming MiSTer clones sure to make the hobby accessible to more people, there is an update of info I feel would benefit so many... arcade cab setups. Would love to see Bob or MLiG do a whole thing on this subject.
Bob of RetroRGB has already covered a great wealth of options here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmassx9hJP8
However, the one thing that may prove really helpful is a comparison of all the different Arcade hardware/jamma options to assist others to know which option is best for THEIR setup. I'm not trying to start any debates or contests as I am sure all current options are highly respected. I'd just love to see something like a OSSC/Retrotink scaler shootout type comparison for Jamma solutions. Example, some of the IO options seem to be based on older 6.0+ revisions vs newer 24bit support, etc.
For example, if I have a good Jamma harness, and I might be deciding on a Mistercade. Currently it is $550 for a complete setup or $250 without a DE10 nano or Sd-Ram: https://misteraddons.com/products/miste ... 2062845061
However, then there is Jammix: https://www.jammix.io/
It's about the same price spread for with/without DE-10 options. If new to arcade setups, a buyer might check if both options have ability to plug in a kick harness but not know much beyond that to research. If one doesn't need any PC case for Jammix because it will mount like an arcade board, how would one compare one option over the other?
If one just wants Mister to connect with JAMMA, are their cheaper options that don't skimp on quality? Let's look at Tim Worthington's scart to jamma offering (and link to RetroRGB's page for good measure): https://www.retrorgb.com/new-scart-to-j ... apter.html
The one I nearly forgot about since I rarely see it mentioned is Antonio Villena's JAMMA adapter for MiSTer (low latency) for 70,00 €
https://antoniovillena.com/product/jamm ... w-latency/
I'm now seriously looking at Antonio's option and trying to figure out why I might need anything more. The price is great, and if all I need is a VGA cable and USB (possibly audio cable), it seems like I can simply unplug my triple-stack in a case and pop it into a cab without having to buy a new Mister clone, no? Wouldn't the best option be like a Jamma equivalent of an Analogue Pocket DOCK to put your cased (vs exposed PCB) Mister in for arcade fun, then bring it back to the living room?
