MT32-Pi.. which add-ons to use?

Unread post by Slypty »

Maybe I'm over-complicating a simple issue, I'm having a lot of difficulty getting sound from the MT32-pi with my current setup.

I'm using a cheap Analog I/O clone board V6.1 through the 3.5mm headphone jack, do I need to use a Digital Board?

With my current setup I'll occasionally hear the MIDI music playing, for instance on X68K Akumajou Dracula, with no MIDI only sound effects are heard, with my setup the background theme music will cut in and out sporadically.

I'm pretty sure the rest of my setup if fine:

  • Used the MT32-pi Script for MiSTer install

  • Using MT32-pi romset

  • Switched to MT32 sound on booting X68K

  • Using a short USB cable

Do I need to do anything special to hear the music? I realize using TOSLink would be better but want to have it working before I do an upgrade.

Should 96K audio over HDMI be enable in the .ini if I'm using the 3.5mm headphone jack or does the headphone support i2s anyways?

So this was a low-power problem. Although I disabled the low power warning, I still did need to power it from a USB-C cable from the MiSTErs USB Hub.

I'm using a Pi 3A+, so in case anyone else has this issue, using the OEM DE-10 Nano PSU isn't sufficient to power the Pi. You need to either get a 5V 4A PSU or add a USB cable to the mini USB input on the Pi to power it properly.
