Aliasing core name (Minimig -> Amiga) & why is it still Minimig?

Can I alias the name Minimig so it shows up as Amiga in the computers list?

The reason I ask here rather than in a general forum is it must confuse a fair number of people, and I was wondering why it is still called Minimig? I tried googling (not deeply) and didn't see an answer.

Yes. Use names.txt (it can be automatically configured via update_all).

It is named Minimig because that is the name of the core/project to reimplement the Amiga in FPGA.

Cools thanks.

That looks like names.txt will continue to sort Amiga as M though? Ideally I'd like it to appear earlier in the list before Atari ST.

If a names.txt is present in the root of the microSD and only if a core name is matched, then the name is substituted in the way of '[rbf-filename]: [substitute name]', e.g. 'Minimig: Commodore Amiga'.

Can I make it just "Amiga".

I did know the name of the core was Minimig, but wasn't the name of the ST core MiST? I'm sure there are good reasons for keeping the name, and it is a really minor issue for me. It just made me wonder why this is preferred.

You can name it whatever you want in names.txt .

MiST was just a portmanteau of Amiga and Atari ST and was the name of the FPGA board/project and by extension, MiSTer does the same.

Looking at it I think it is still going to put Minimig: first or do I not understand?

Ideally I just want it to say "Amiga", not "Minimig: Amiga", and to be sorted alphabetically as such. I know Minimig = Amiga so I don't need just a label for that.

I think you are reading into the instructions too literally. The format of names.txt is:

Code: Select all

[name of rbf]: [the name you want]

If I put "Chocolate Sundae" as the name for the minmig core, that's what will show up in the core menu, not "minimig: Chocolate Sundae".

Great thanks, I was confused by "Minimig: Commodore Amiga" being in quotes in the instructions. Tried it out, that's perfect.

Note that AmigaVision already does this for you, so just be aware that you will end up with two Amiga entries if you install it.

I'd like it to appear earlier in the list before Atari ST.

Rumours are that this was the exact reason for the naming in the first place, to gets ads in old computer mags listed up before those for Apple and Atari :)
