Who's in charge of the Mister Discord?

While I was at work today, came home, went onto discord, to find I'd bben kicked from all 20 of them.
I've changed my password in Discord, and set up a 2FA. I've also checked to see if there was any unauthorized apps, like a bot, but that was all okay.
To any members I've PM'ed in Discord offering anything random, I do apologise.
Some people got 50 quid off Steam Vouchers, some people got Free ONlyfans accounts.
Anyway, is it possible to be allowed back into the discord please?
Many thanks.

Hi, on the PCN discord i had to time you out for a day as it was happening a few times about Steam gifts etc, and users was having spammed DM messages from your account.

I only use it to download unstable builds. I find the concept of having to give out my cell phone number just to be part of a chat room to be retarded.

That's fine, it was PCN who messaged me first to say "dude you've been hacked"!

Discord doesn't know my mobile number, I use the PC version. I'm not at school like a kid on their mobile 20 hours a day. I'm 53!!

Some of the Channels on Discord demand a mobile. If a Channel needs one I disregard it. luckily on the Mister Discord I joined beforre that and so dont need a number. This is on the PC version.
I do agree with Waifu that if you demand a number from me to participate I wont be taking part.

Hmm, is he on here, can't see him in the members list.
Hopefully a co-moderator may see this. Thanks.

Hi, I own the Discord. You were indeed spamming steam gift cards. Since it seems you have it all fixed, I unbanned you.

This is just discord's own way of enforcing the highest security setting, which drastically reduces the number of spammers, bots, and the ability for people to repeatedly harass others on the server. As it is a publicly listed server these things are legitimate concerns for us. We have the ability to manually verify people past this, and are usually willing to if the newcomer contacts one of the mods and spends a minute explaining the issue.
I know the internet is a scary place and giving out your phone number to a giant company must be terrifying for you, but maybe let's try to not assume negative intent quite so much okay?

This is completely unnecessary. When I attempted to start a game club here on the forums for people who do not want to use Discord (plenty of people stated as much), you were equally dismissive of the effort. You do not need to take criticism of Discord personally. Nobody is attacking you or the MiSTer channel when they talk about Discord's policies no matter how much you may not care about their terms of service. Other people do not want to agree to it, and that is their right even if you don't understand their reasoning.
Talking down to someone for disagreeing with you on your stance of someone else's company and website doesn't say anything positive about you. Do better.

Yeah, my background is IT, I know enough about the risks of giving out this info to a company like Discord where users are the product. It's bad enough that Google knows it because of the duopoly of the cell phone market. Also, not all channels require a mobile number, you're to one who chose to go with it.

You misunderstand me. Mister discussion is great, Discord is not.
Simple question, I expect it would also be a simple answer...
Why choose Discord over IRC?

It never 'needed' to die.
slack and discord are just graphical clones. i remember when you used to have to learn something before you could even connect and join channels.
the new guys want you to agree to bullshit legal nonsense, have a corporation track and monetize it all, and scoop up your personal data.... all just to talk to other people online...
its like asking to someone why they choose to use facebook for their personal communications.
would you really prefer to go tell a third party (or a stranger) what youd like to tell your friends/family?
or, would you rather just tell/show them yourself, directly.?
there is no benefit or advantage to discord other than a low barrier of entry. and having been online since the beginning, i can tell you that is not a feature.
oh also. the 90s was fucking awesome!

I jnioed an old IRC channel I used to frequest, there's was over 1000 online, tried starting a few conversations, got nothing back. Waited an hour. Still nothing, so I quit. I since found out, they're only there all the time as it's included in their seed ratio.

IRC died a natural death, the same way that old computers, BBSes, Bearshare, Compuserve, Norton Ghost, telephone boxes, windy handles for the windows in your car and cassette tapes have/did. I'm not disagreeing, mIRC was ace back in the day, i used to be on it every night chatting to like minded retro geeks, sharing ascii art, talking nonsense. But we saw less and less people turning up each night for shorter and shorter periods of time, until... well, new things came along and IRC became a memory. I quite like Discord if you find the right channels.

I think the point is that its not that the platform that is necessarily the attractive/great part, its the people and the communities themselves.
I can't think of too many benefits to a 'Discord server' over an IRC server.
Again other than the barrier of entry for the admins and the users (which, i fully understand is valid).
But even wayyyyy back when, when all the nerds (respectfully) were all on IRC, people made solutions for users who couldn't figure out the clients. You'd see embedded IRC clients on webpages so you could hop in and participate or ask a question. The barrier for entry is pretty low with IRC as well.
There is nothing novel Discord is doing, other than openly logging (I am fully aware IRC server admins can log unencrypted chats too), monetizing, and censoring user content.
Discord sure is great!
IRC is dead.
Long live IRC.

I find Discord to be an unnavigable stream-of-consciousness mess. You can't find anything if you don't keep up with the messages constantly and good luck ever finding something useful or interesting again. Someone should create an AI bot to parse the Discord messages into meaningful forum posts so you can read what you are interested in and not everyone's top-of-mind brain farts all day. JMHO...
