DS3 Six Axis Controller Unable to Define Buttons

I cannot for the life of me get this original Dualshock 3 Sixaxis controller to bind in mister. I suspect that maybe the gyro is inputting false inputs? I tried putting it on a flat surface but then the rumble activates on a few button presses and inputs a bunch of false inputs again.

I read online people using DS3s no problem so not sure what I've done wrong here.

Follow up, I can confirm it's the gyro overwhelming the inputs. As when I go to the define buttons tab, none of the actual button faces respond, but if I shake the controller aggressively it rapidly goes through all of the inputs.

Perhaps your contact film in the gamepad is damaged or the contact between the film and the circuit board is broken. The analog sticks are the only thing that is not connected to the film and they work fine.

It was the contacts of the ribbon cable connecting the face buttons to the PCB, apparently the foam inside that pushes the contacts down can age and shaking the controller was causing phantom inputs as the contact wiggled around.

Cleaned everything with isopropanol and put in a new piece of foam and now it all works correctly.
