Hi,
I've been looking for doc on what the 8 and 12 Vertical Crop modes do exactly, but with no luck.
My current guess is that they resp. crop 8 and 12 pixels up and down the screen, and if so the 12 mode would give an exact 5x scale in 1080p, but I'm not entirely sure I got it right. If anyone has more information to share, that would be most welcome!
Thanks,
N64 Core Documentation (vertical crop modes in particular)

Yes, that is exactly what it does: crop 8/12 pixels from top and bottom so 16/24 in total.
If you are ever in question about these things: you can look for the source resolution if you press left in the OSD on the same page where you can set the volume.
