How do I configure the cores for The Simpsons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to allow choosing the characters?

Since the 4-player ROMs are used for these cores, Player 1 always defaults to Marge and Leonardo respectively.

Is there some other way other than connecting another controller?

4 player arcade cabinets had dedicated control panels for each character, where switching character implied player moving to other panel. If you don't want to set up multiple controllers just to switch characters, you can use 2 player variant roms present in the Arcade/_Alternatives folder. 2 player games had proper character select screens instead of dedicated controls.

Thanks for the advice... I did not know the 4-player arcade cabs were dedicated per character.

Any idea what's the difference between The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 1), The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 2), and The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 3)?

I guess TMNT is easier to figure out by just using Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Oceania 2 Players, version x)?
