Issues with SA1 roms

Hey folks,

I got a mister last week and it has been awesome so far. Especially enjoying the SNES core, so thank you to the developers for your hard work and dedication.

I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed somewhere, but I was wondering if there are issues with running certain romhacks that use SA1. I tested a few Super Mario World romhacks that happen to use the SA1 that seem to crash after loading. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or would be able to try these and see if you also see similar results.

Version SNES_20240919.rbf

The roms I tested were

Even a few non-hacks were having issues:

  • Super Mario RPG, game crashes after walking into first castle

Additionally, is this related to the same limitation mentioned in this comment regarding the SRAM required to run these kinds of roms

Code: Select all

https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/SNES_MiSTer/issues/296#issuecomment-1107431013

Edit: one interesting thing I forgot to mention is that the "six pack" rom seems to work on the Analogue Pocket core, which I believe is port of the Mister core leading me to think maybe this issue is something borked with my installation

UPDATE November 22, 2024 at 8:45:07 PM CST
In case anyone else runs into this issue, it appears to be fixed on the latest unstable nightly release posted here (SNES_ss_20241109.rbf)

Have you tried the latest SNES unstable nightly ? There was a fix to SA1 that went in on 10/7 and guessing may hit the updater soon.

FYI you can find these on the MiSTer Discord.

Edit: Not familiar with these hacks in particular, but if they require a “Super SA1” with capabilities beyond original SA1 then it’s not clear they would work. Still I would try the unstable nightly to see first.

I haven't tried the nightly yet. I will check it out, and thank for the tip about the discord!
