While I wait for this to arrive, how does this work with the main menu? I know there are special cores for the adapter, but can you see anything when you first turn on the MiSTer? What about other non-custom cores? Do they display anything? Thanks!

As promised I've created an adapter based on MikeS1 schematics. It has the same size of my other adapter, so I can reuse the cases. Sale link here:

I have yours (bought through Ricardo), but it has colorbleed all over the place. Is there anything I can do to get it better?

Are you using Composite or S-Video? Do you have any other equipment that you can hook up to the same video input jack? It might be that your TV needs adjusting on that input in the service menu.

S-Video.. But good call about the display, should have thought about that :) Just dug out another monitor, and no issues indeed...

Thanks!

Hi All,

Thanks to the amazing work from @theypsilon (https://www.patreon.com/theypsilon), I was able to quickly make a downloader for the YC cores that can be added to update all. https://github.com/MikeS11/YC_Builds-MiSTer

The folder structure is YCArcade, YCConsole, YCComputer.

You just have to add this to your downloader.ini file (NOTE: YC cores ONLY) :)

Code: Select all

jd213 wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 4:25 pm I ended up having the exact same sync problems you did, and I also tried just about all ini setting and SOG switch combinations (except I didn't think to try turning composite sync off). Used a multimeter to verify that all the pins were wired correctly and that there were no shorts, so I dunno what the problem could be. I used different VGA pins for ground and kept them separate, but if you kept them together and had the same problem, that's probably not the cause.

Guess I'll have to try a BNC to S-Video adapter or wait for Mike's breakout board...
Got the adapter, and it didn't work until I switched the connections, with the green plug on the VGA>BNC adapter going to the red socket on the BNC>SVideo adapter, and the red plug likewise going to the white socket, which is the opposite of how I've seen others do it.

So I figured I'd try switching the Y and C connections in the VGA>Svideo adapter I made myself, and now it works too.

Not sure if the pics on retrorgb.com were mistaken or I was (guessing the latter), but it's nice to finally be able to use my consumer Trinitron with my MiSTer. Wasted $10 on an adapter, but I've probably wasted well over $1000 in cables in my life by this point...

You have open update_all.sh, not downloader.ini. downloader.ini is in the root mister folder, not in the scripts folder, so you need to go up one directory.

No need to change anything in the downloader.ini now, everything has been added to the latest update script :), you just need to toggle it in the settings.

At the moment I've not sold any MikeS1 based adapter to Ricardo. I've only sold vga->composite adapters based on AD723

Is there anyone selling the active version of the adapter that doesn’t require the Analog I/O board?

Edit: Looks like Ricardo of ultimatemister.com has plans to sell them soon!

Yep!

The Atari ST and Amiga are tied to main so I had to do a bit of a work around to tune the cores. I actually high jacked the MT32 section in main tune both of the cores. And while there is a pal status in the Atari ST core, I couldnt find it in the Amiga core so I ended up making two of them since I dont have any ability to add menu items without writing it straight to main.

It's unfortunate that these currently can't just be part of the regular cores instead of separate ones. Hopefully someday this functionality will be approved to be integrated.

On a separate note, I just got an adapter from Antonio and composite works but Svideo has sync issues. I am using it with Antonio's IOUSB6 board that has better quality video DAC's. Any idea what might be causing Svideo to not have proper sync when Composite is working? He suggested to try changing the 430 ohm sync resistor for a 330 as a test. I can't change it right now because I will be on vacation and need the composite working in the meantime and don't want to break it, but I wanted to ask so when I get back, I can try to get it working with Svideo too. Thanks!

Also, I wish these cores would work with Antonio's dual SNAC adapters. All of this stuff should be standard in my opinion instead of having different cores. It's all good stuff.

I'm also having the same issue with that adapter where composite works but s-video does not. Antonio was very helpful in troubleshooting with me though, which is much appreciated! Hopefully swapping out that resistor fixes it. Won't be able to test that until next month though when I have access to a soldering iron. I'm just glad composite and s-video are getting community support, since those inputs on a CRT are necessary for preserving the original feel of many old games imo

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so please forgive me if this is out of place. It looks like some of the mra that I received with update_all.sh point to cores that have not been ported. I'm not sure if this is expected or not but just in case it's not here is the list.

Thanks, and thanks so much for making all the working cores!

Thanks! I'll have a look and add them, there were so many cores I was bound to miss a few through the process.

I believe I already have done them but I'll run some tests first and upload them this week.

I received an ACTIVE type adapter directly from Mike, and have tested both composite and s-video on my 9" BVM. Both look perfect! Here's the PSX core:

S-Video:

Composite:

dI6TY1F.jpg
dI6TY1F.jpg (2.48 MiB) Viewed 7698 times

This is using Analog IO board, with 24 bit color disabled on the core since I'm not using Direct Video.

For anyone thinking of buying an active adapter, I recommend waiting for the Ultimate Mister release as they're working directly with Mike and will be tested properly.

I'm powering my Y/C board via the USB C port on it since my VGA switch strips the power pin unfortunately.

Good to see these boards are now available in shops. Two things:

  • what's the difference between passive / active one?
  • the MisterAddons board says "NTSC only" - I don't remember, were the cores also NTSC only?

CRT SCR$ Project - building a collection of high-quality photos of CRT displays
