MSX2 how to load .rom files?

Unread post by clarkkent »

The MSX2 core seems to support harddisk files only. But I have several .rom files - how to load them?

It’s a while since I fiddled with it so I haven’t any advice on setting it up, but there’s an MSX program called sofarun that will launch ROMs for you. Put it and your .ROMs, .DSKs and so on in a vhd.

Thank you for your advice.

But I would like to know why there is no option in the MiSTer menu to mount a ROM or Diskimage. The MSX 1 core has such a menu - the MSX 2 core not. And I wonder why and if there is a method of mounting them?

If you want to use cartridge of floppy disk files with MSX2, I recommend to not use the "MSX" core (which is actually based on "modern" 1chipMSX project instead of actual MSX2 computers), but rather use a beta version of the "MSX1" core upgraded with MSX2 support. It is currently listed on GitHub as a separate branch of MSX1.

The MSX2 uses a different method of using BIOS files, so I'd also recommend to look at the core description page by Vampier.

Edit: replaced dead link with an archive snapshot.

Yes, and with roms you've got to use the appropriate mapper as far as I can tell.

Eg, I can't get this to run - https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=97563
MSX2 but it's a ROM. I think. I'm not sure, I don't know enough about the MSX, if anyone can help.

Many thanks!
