Has anyone actually gotten the mouse to work?

Unread post by Torgo »

Something that I've wanted for a long time is support for the mouse. It gives you a way to play some lightgun games like Virtua Cop 1&2 really well (I have one for the real Saturn).

But, I can't seem to get it to work. If it's set as either Controller 1 or 2, the game won't boot even, instead going straight to the hardware setup screen, and if I set it after the game boots, I have no way of testing or using the mouse that I have connected to the MiSTer.

I looked around for info, but I'm not seeing anything. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks much!

Mouse works fine for me. Tested Virtua Cop 2. Make sure mouse it set as Pad 1 and ingame you have press the third/middle mouse button as start. The (also plugged) Joypad mapped "start" button also works.

Anyone else can jump in and correct me but I'm pretty sure this is only available with the latest in-development build from Discord and a Unstable MiSTer Main?

Yes, you need the latest (18.09.2024) Saturn unstable.

Here it is with original hardware. It's great when you don't have a CRT anymore

So, first things first, I set controller 1 as the mouse, and the game (VC1 & 2) reboots, then won't start. I'm not using any unstable build, I'm using the newest from Update All. If that isn't officially working yet, then that answers my question.
I just ran UpdateAll now and tried, still doesn't work (or it doesn't like my mouse?)

Latest mouse update is from 9/17, so you're probably going to want a prerelease core that can be found here:

So, just checked my 2nd MiSTer. The Mouse option is available on both of mine after running UpdateAll.
Saturn Core I have is dated 24.06.28 lol
I'll look at adding the unstable build, but I'll probably skip it and wait. It's awesome that someone is working on this, so thank you!

Loaded the unstable build on and it's working very well (actually, the tracking is so much nicer using an optical mouse rather than the original lol)
Thanks all!!
